Position Title:  Fisheries Research Assistant

(Full-time, beginning June 8, 2012 up until up to November 4, 2012)

Pay: $12/Hour (Contractual/No Benefits)

 

General Description:  The primary responsibility of this position is to collect fisheries data over the telephone for surveys sponsored by State or Federal Agencies according to contract requirements.  Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting silent monitoring, contributing to reports, interacting with fishery constituents to increase participation, and assisting to ensure that all survey requirements are met.   

 

Specific Description:  The Fisheries Research Assistant is expected to assist with the weekly mailing of advance selection letters and interview captains and owners of fishing vessels over the telephone.  Approximately 3-4 hours must be spent working on a weekend day (Saturday or Sunday).  The Fisheries Research Assistant is also responsible for entering logsheet data received via fax in an Access database.  The Fisheries Research Assistant also responsible for conducting validation calls for the Large Pelagics Intercept Survey (LPIS).  Additional work on the LPIS may be required as directed by the Program Manager and Data Manager including, but not limited to, entering data from LPIS forms, reviewing forms and procedures with Interviewers, error-checking resolution, monitoring assignment completion, and logistics.  The Fisheries Research Assistant must complete other duties as assigned.

 

Supervision:  The Fisheries Research Assistant reports directly to the Program Manager and the Data Manager.

 

Minimum Qualifications/Required Education, Experience, and Skills: The Fisheries Research Assistant must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), must be able to use QuanTech’s custom Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) system, and have excellent verbal, written, math, motivational, and communication skills.  The Fisheries Research Assistant must also have the ability to efficiently manage and prioritize multiple tasks, manage their time effectively, and have the ability to work with all levels of staff and management.

Work Environment and Expectations: Work is performed in QuanTech’s Headquarters in Arlington, VA.  This position is not qualified for overtime.
